I've found spelling errors, some grammar issues, and it's not making me want to be a vegetarian. But it's giving me some information that I hadn't thought about before, and I find that to be interesting. I described to my hubs that I felt like this is a very smart book on Jonathan Safran Foer's behalf. He's merely writing what he researched in making the decision to raise his son vegetarian. And I feel that this book is perfect for vegetarians. They'll grab this book and eat up every word, feeling fully justified in their own personal choices. But, meat eating omnivores will have a sense of justification, too. They'll read this book, as I am, and feel that the choices that they have made can't be swayed by the author. He's going to make his money, and not have to really worry about change. Because nothing in this book is all that shocking or new.

I digress.

I'm in the throes of reading this book, because he'll be in town TONIGHT to hold a discussion and signing session! I've read his two works of fiction

and loved them!

I'm hoping he'll sign all three books tonight. And I'm hoping to finish Eating Animals before then! I'd like to be informed well enough before any discussion of the book takes place. I only have a few hours left, and about 100 pages [or so] to tear through. Wish me luck! And get out of here! You're too distracting!

I'll resume the sock tomorrow :-D

I'm not...afraid.

B'okay, chickens. I've gone out, bought a pattern, bought new DPNs and some yarn for my socks. I don't, that's who.

I also signed up for Etsy, and made my first purchase! I'm pretty dorky, excited about this...because after two [2] attempts at making my own knitting-needle roll, and failing, I bought one. It's uber cute! Maine. Maine is the pain. I thought we were making strides, moving forward. But the [not-so] Great State of Maine has taken about 42 steps in the wrong direction by repealing the gay marriage law.

Shame on you.

Seriously, people. Get over yourselves.

In other news, I'm in a knitting block. I have no idea what I want to do. I'm going to visit a new yarn store tomorrow, to see if that clears anything up. Tomorrow night should be magical.

What's next, you ask? Well:

This coming weekend, I'll be auditioning, sitting through a read-through for an alumni show at Dominican University, going to a birthday party, praying for a call back, and packing packing packing for my brother's wedding. I'm trying to find an approp. monologue right now...yeah...I know...and thinking up some sort of speech I can give for the wedding - I'm the best man.

I'm also praying that the man behind me in this cafe didn't watch me type in my card number to get my train tickets home. Hopefully, people are still decent, and my foolishness will not have caused a little drama later on. It's only my bank card, though, and good luck trying to find any money in THAT. Maybe he'll deposit some?

Wishful thinking.

And..now I'm nervous. Ok...time to get a move on. What's new?

Well, this summer has been pretty heavy, that's for sure. A lot of emotional events took place - for the full story, you'll just have to ask. However, one thing is for sure: This is a summer of transition.

Tom and I are about to move into our own place - 3 Days left in The Countdown! I'm a mess because of it, but Tom's cool as a cuke, so there shouldn't be any worries [tell that to my tummy]. We're moving just a few miles north to the Buena Park/Uptown area, back to the lake! It should be just happiness :-D We've only a few more rooms to pack up here, and we'll be on our way.

So, I've seen others blogging about the items they've knitted, and I must say...it looks like fun! I've decided to add some updates and pics from my ravelry page.

Here we go, with my latest project, a woman's scarf. I found the pattern in the Vogue Stitchionary, Vol. 1. It's Pattern #30, The Moss and Diamond Brocade. I think it turned out rather lovely! But, please, share your thoughts!

Lovely, no? Next up, a really cute hat...it'll be something that is fun and simple, while allowing me to try out a new technique I've learned. After that...I will start Christmas Stockings [I hope!]!

In other news, I've downloaded the Google Chrome. I'm loving it. 'Nuff Said.

I've also purchased the Lacie IAMAKEY:

This little, tiny USB Flash Drive is literally the size of a key. It fits right on to my key ring, and is VERY durable! I still can't believe that this little thing can do so much - if you're shopping around for a new jump drive, I recommend this one!

What...else...

Tom, his mother, younger brothers and [our] friend Maria all went to see Julie & Julia. I can't stop raving about the film. Meryl Streep - just beyond herself! Her chemistry with Stanley Tucci was just a delight! Amy Adams was more realistic in this performance than any other of hers that I've seen. And the food was just beautiful. I've said it before, I'll say it again - I can't wait for this to come out on DVD. And YES, I'll be one of the many, many people who go out and buy an edition of Mastering the Art of French Cooking, Vol. 1. Bite Me.

[WELL...not me...the delicious food I'll be preparing...]

That's about all for now, I'll try to begin posting more regularly once we've moved!

I'm-a'comin

[back, that is.]

You may notice that I've changed things around on my sidebar...can't remember what it was like before? So, I removed them.

That's all for now...be prepared, I'll be back - posting as I used to...as I used to...

Currently,

I'm reading:

I'm Listening to:

The times...they've a-changed...

Wow. My last update was Oct. '07...sorry kiddles.

So. What's new? Too much, that's what.

I'm reading A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle...and it's...interesting. I'm reading it because my momma, Marta and Oprah all told me on the same day that I needed to read it. You know...you never say 'no' momma. I'd just finished What's Eating Gilbert Grape and cried and cried and cried....and after said Eckhart book, I've got my sights set on Christ the Lord Out of Egypt.

Wow. That was boring paragraph! You'll have to forgive me, I'm out of practice.

FORGIVE ME.

you have to.

What....else....

I've been eating an atrocious amount of Fried Egg Sandwhiches lately...blame it on the fact that you can buy 1 18ct. pack of eggs and get 1 free...what is that...b118poeg1? I don't market...just shop there. Goooooo Easter!

American Girls Place announced that are closing all AG Theatres by Sept. 1, 2008. That means...I'll be out of steady work! Yay. It means that if you want to see the show for free, let me know and I'll get you in...you only have 5 months. It also means that I had a little mental breakdown. Double yay. At least I'm going to kick my butt into gear and work on getting ready for auditions and what not...it's just sad that we're all leaving each other all at once...

"Move on," Sondheim said. Shoot...if I had a following like Sondheim...would I even have to [move]?

Jesus dies in two weeks and I haven't even been to a fish fry ALL LENT. Some friends I have...jerks.

That's about all I have to offer right now...sorry it's a rather blah posting, but you only get what you give. Sorry to hear you've got the Dreamer's Disease.

Ouch.

Until later....

Sweet vid

Star in Your Own JibJab! It's only been...what...4 months since my last post?

I know, I know.

"What's new?" you're asking....well, quite a bit. But I won't be able to tell you all of it, because I can't. You should know, already, anyway.

Some highlights, however, include: Seeing The Light in the Piazza [Edited for FOOLISH content], taking on a new show for 'fun,' and spending time relaxing and enjoying the summer.

[Edited for FOOLISH content] People may ask "how does that make things with you and Chris?" Well. It hasn't caused a problem yet. I don't know what his true feelings are about the situation, but here are mine: I think we're doing better now, as roommates and friends, then when we were in a relationship. He's got something planned for himself next year, something rather exciting, and I hope it works out for him! We've not fought in quite a while, and I don't feel the need to know exactly what he's doing with himself each night, where he goes...that sort of thing.

You know.

The musical was amazing to see live. I have the taped version of a live performance [surprisingly NOT a bootleg] and I love it, but there's something about being in a live place and hearing everything in person that just makes the evening magical.

Speaking of musicals, I've been getting a kick out of Grey Gardens. Yes, it's closed. No I didn't see it. But I have the documentary it's based off of, and I think it's a brilliant piece. I can't imagine how good the show was, but everyone that I've talked with just loved it. London's lucky to receive something so wonderful. Or do they say 'wondreful?'

The world may never know.

London will, of course.

I've taken on a role in a benefit production of Godspell at a local church. It's weird, because I feel like I was supposed to take it on. For a few weeks I'd been commenting to a friend that as we were walking down the street, I felt like we were in a scene of the movie. People would be wearing goofy clothes, have odd hair, and be gathered around a soup bus. And on a Wednesday a few weeks back, I was walking home from the store, after a long day's work, and got the most overwhelming need to sit in a church. Any church. One that was open. Sadly, I didn't act on that. But the very next morning is when I received a call from someone looking for a replacement. The fun thing is is that it will be performed in a church!

What're the odds?

3:1? I don't know...I'm horrible at Keno.

Anyway...rehearsals are underway, and I'm having mixed feelings about it. I like where the show is going, I'm just not happy with the process at this time. I know the end product will be just fine, though! We'll see how the next few weeks go, though. It's just one weekend in September...and I'm learning very valuable life lessons!

3, 2, 1

And we're here to talk about the summer and different things. Well...there's been bowling, beaches, Moody's people leaving for London [love you Jweber!], friends are starting to get married...and of course...filming!

That's right, folks....someone actually captured this sorry soul on film. Yoni, a good friend and avid reader has put something brilliant on film, and I'm sure he'll start editing soon!

I'll keep you posted!

I've got more to say. But I don't want to share it now...my eyes are tired...it's been a long week. Let's just sum it up...what's today? Thursday, officially? Ok. Sunday: I don't remember; Monday: Hoo-da-ha followed by the [Adult] Hoo-dee-ha followed by a sleep over at Brian's; Tuesday: 3 AG shows, post Hoo-dee-ha [tearing my voice apart], then vocal rehearsal for the Gspell; Wednesday: Got called in for the 12.30 show...Brian's car needs repair [he was able to bike in for the 2 o'clock and 4.30 shows...so it was all good! And good to see him again!]

Tonight, I have rehearsal...and then...who knows...I might freak out or something!

Anywho...this wasa brief update...I'll try to stay more in touch!

Laters!

Jury Duty Scam...PLEASE BE CAREFUL

You all know I really don't like sending and receiving SPAM letters...but I think this one's legitimate. I'm sure all of you know never to give out your social, but it's a
good reminder. Just an fyi...

-----Original Message-----

This has been verified by the FBI (Their link is also included below).
Please pass this on to everyone in your email address book. It is spreading
fast so be prepared should you get this call. Most of us take summons for
jury duty seriously, but enough people skip out on their civic duty, that a
new and omi nous kind of scam has surfaced. The caller claims to be a jury
coordinator. If you protest that you never received a summons for jury duty,
the scammer asks you for your Social Security number and date of birth so he
or she can verify the information and cancel the arrest warrant. Give out
any of this information and bingo; your identity just got stolen. The scam
has been reported so far in 11 states, including Oklahoma, Illinois, and
Colorado. This (scam) is particularly insidious because they use
intimidation over the phone to try to bully people into giving information
by pretending they're wit h the court system. The FBI and the federal court
system have issued nationwide alerts on their web sites, warning consumers
about the fraud.

Check it out here: http://www.snopes.com/crime/fraud/juryduty.asp
http://www.fbi.gov/pressrel/pressrel

How to Protect yourself -

Court workers WILL NOT CALL YOU to report you have missed jury duty or to
assemble juries or to prescreen jurors. If anyone calls with this premise it
is not legitimate.

NEVER GIVE OUT your Social Security Number, Credit Card Number or Address
over the phone if you did not initiate the call. If a caller insists on
"verifying" this information with you HAVE THEM READ IT TO YOU, never give
it to them to verify against their records.

Examine your credit card statements every month and look for unknown or
unauthorized charges.

upDATE

Not a whole lot to report this time around, chick-a-peas...

Becca [my sister] and Matt [her bf] came and visited about a week ago...we walked the Mile, stopped at Virgin Records and took part in the sale -- I bought What About Bob?; The Jerk; Benny & Joon; and For Your Consideration. We ate at Giordano's, as Matt's never been, nor had Chicago Style Pizza. Then we went to The Green Mill, my new favorite bar, and heard Alfonso Ponticelli, a fabulous Gypsy-Jazz musician [he performs there every Wed.].

Burger Night, Burger Night...Work, Rehearsal, Shows....it all happened. :-)

Last night, we went to Spin to support our friend Matt in the "Bear's Night Only" shower contest. I screamed as loud as I could, but it didn't really work...he came in 2nd...to last. After that we went to Roscoe's [my first time] where people proceeded to laugh at my hat, point at me, and dump a bucket of pigs blood on me [I had come from two shows, my hair was a mess, hence...the hat]. After closing time [2A] we walked ourselves to Clark's and had some breakfast-type foods. It was nice to go out - Andrew was extra nice and drove all of us home. I still have to stop by Aaron and Greg's to get my backpack...

This week should be pretty exciting, event-filled, and fun all around! I have rehearsal Sunday, Monday, Tuesday...my regular Friday shows...and Brian took the weekend off, so I have 7 MORE shows between Saturday and Sunday! Then another rehearsal Sunday evening! YAY for THAT paycheck...I can't wait! [Sorry that sounded a little...hoitey toitey...but I'm excited about my job!]

Also, this week, we have book club: where we'll be discussing Life of Pi. I thought it was a very good read, very quick and I recommend it to anyone that's looking for something to pick up. I don't think that it lives up to the author's claim, that you'll believe in God after reading it...BUT, you decide!

I'll also be ordering my digital camera this week! I'll finally have pictures of the people and places I love, to share with the whole world [and to help me remember things...]! I've decided to grab the Sony Cybershot DSC-T100. For more info...research it yourself.

WINK.

Alright...that's about it. It was a little longer than I originally stated....but here it is! I'm going to go make something to eat, head out for my backpack, and probably head to Starbuck's to read.

I'll see you soon!

I'm currently reading: Infidel by Ayaan Hirsi Ali
[Excerpted from www.bn.com] Somali-born author Ayaan Hirsi Ali is one of the most controversial women on earth. For years, she has been forced to live in hiding; her life has been threatened numerous times; an anti-Koran script that she wrote provoked the assassination of filmmaker Theo Van Gogh; and a dispute over her citizenship indirectly brought down the Dutch government. This memoir about her family's travails living under strict fundamentalist Islamic precepts tracks the evolution of a world-changing radical feminist.

Ready to Run

I've gotta get out of this town.

If only for one day.

The last time I was anywhere other than Chicago was Dec. 25. The time before that, Thanksgiving. And both times, I was home in Fairview Heights.

I'd love to take a trip anywhere in the U.S., even if it's just to Ohio or Iowa or Indiana. I think I'm in such a mood because I haven't been out of here in a long time -- I need some sort of break.

At one point, Marta had been talking about how fun it'd be to spend one day in NY, all of us from AG on a Monday when the show's dark, no one's on and we just fly up walk around see things and then fly back home...no hotel time, nothing of that sort.

I've never been to NYC. I'm itching to go. I NEED to see it. I HAVE to see SOMETHING on Broadway...and soon. I started off by meeting mumsies and daddums downtown for breakfast on Monroe and Wabash. MMM mmmm! Good times! They bought us a potato peeler, as we lacked one, as well as our first Christmas decor for our new place, in the form of a green and red holiday dish towel. TOO CUTE!

After that, they dropped me off at the Shedd Aquarium and left for the Fairview Heights. I had the best time with them this weekend!

I then met up with Julie and Greg and girl [Megan] to spend the afternoon at said aquarium as Tuesdays are free admission -- great times sneaking into shows and whatnot! YO DOG.

I've posted pictures below of the fun things we saw. Enjoy [and forgive, as they were taken with a phone...]:

A Sea Anemonemaneee

Gigantor Turtle

GRAINY Dori -- why didn't this one turn out as big as the others?

GORGEOUS Jellyfish -- NO, I didn't alter the color, this is what it looked like, seriously.

Jacques? I'm off to bed, as I have to work the rest of the week. [and the weekend after]

So, I'm not really one for the enjoyment of the Halloween Festivities....but I enjoyed this hurr one!

I bought a TON of candy for the neighborkids [the little ones that hang out on the back porch] but then realized that we'd be gone before they went out...so...Chris and I ate most of it, and our pals joined in the fun at the Boystown.

Yes, I spent the rest of the night with the fellas at the North Halsted Halloween Parade! It was either the 10th or 14th year....I can't recall...

I just checked their site...it was the 10th. Apparently going back and fixing the sentence above became too much of a chore for me. GET OVER IT.

ANYway.

The parade was a great time, even though it was sooooooooooo cold. One of the best costumes was actually a group that got together and entered themselves [it's the sort of parade where anyone can be in it, and the best costumes (in little categories) win prizes] as the characters from Little Miss Sunshine. CUTE they were! The man dressed as the father had a huge cardboard VW Bus on and the family had to push him every now and then. CUTE! Then the woman dressed as Olive would stop and scream every few yards. CUTER! Then the character that Steve Carell played was carrying a body wrapped in sheets. CUTEST! 10 points for them! I didn't snap a photo, 'cause they kept moving....I'm sad about it. They really were my favorite part of the parade.

People watching were also dressed up....t'was good times! Post parade, Greg decided that we would head to Caribou to get something warm to drink [which we NEEDED] and on the way I saw the following two:Jerri Blank and Liza Minelli/Sally Bowles! ONLY TWO OF MY FAVORITE PEOPLE [Characters] EVER!! They were great and posed for me! [Yes...that's a man as Jerri - Can you believe it?] And can you believe that this was taken with my cell? For some reason it's much better on the web than on the screen of my phone. Hmm. Odd.

At Caribou [which was packed] Chris pointed out that the person who was ringing us was dressed as the Shelly Long character in Troop Beverley Hills. ANOTHER FAVORITE!!! Seriously...LOVED it. I asked if they would pose and they did this cute heel click and salute. Here's the pic:
Man, those men know how to dress! Again, how much do I love my phone's camera?

It was great fun!

This weekend, my parents came to town to see Wicked for the first time. They were here with some family friends and had a blast there. Saturday, Chris and I spent downtown with the four and went to lunch at some place...something Jake something...it was off of Rush and they had great food. I had a Spinach Artichoke Flatbread -- fantastic -- and some beer. The service wasn't really the best, though. It's ok. It was a great time to catch up with everyone. I hadn't seen my parents, afterall, since we moved up here on Aug 6. That's right... Post that, the friends went to the Navy Pier while my parents took the el [also for the first time] to our apartment to finally see it. Chris and I had stayed up until 5A cleaning [and it looks FABULOUS -- and will stay this way] for them, and they loved the place! I'm so glad we kicked our asses into gear! It's so nice that when I wash dishes now, it's only a few at a time and not 30...After that we went back to their hotel, The Palmer House [yeah...I KNOW], met up with the other two [Susie and her beau Terry], had some wine and cheese and looked over the pics my parents brought from their two weeks in Italy [I KNOW....it was their 40th Anniversary, they're so CUTE!]. They pics were great as was the wine and cheeses.

After that we all tried to go to the Frontera Grill [the less expensive/more atmospheric of the two Rick Bayless restaurants] but met up with a 2.5 hour wait. SO. Dad and Terry went out to try to find a place with a shorter wait. They ended up coming back saying that there was a 25 minute wait at this place just a street over called Lalo's. It was SOOO much more fun than that other place. Literally. 3 floors of fun with a Mexican theme. The first floor was the bar and dance area, the second was the seated dining and the last was something that I didn't explore. We got in QUICK and the service was GREAT and there was a roaming Mariachi band, which took requests, and the food was fantabulous! The drinks...oy. Chris and I ordered ourselves [each] a medium Azul Margarita -- yikes. It tasted amazing, was loaded with alcohol, and let's just say I'm still feeling a little tipsy by it....literally more than 24 hours later.

Let's just say....I puked. A bit. AFTER I got home. Yes...AFTER the bumpy train ride from Monroe. I had the spins on the train and I remember looking at Chris every now and then and shaking my head saying it's not going to be a good thing. Then I sat at home, tried to close my eyes [because I was SOOOOO tired from staying up cleaning] and realized I was still amidst the spins. So. I did what I had to do to get more comfortable.

Again, sorry for standing you up, Julie! I'll make it up to you!

It was great times, my mom and dad were a little tipsy too, so it wasn't like it was just me being a drunken fool in front of my parents...I'm a little more classy than THAT. [Well...I thought I was ;-)]

And today I worked. I work again tomorrow, but beforehand my parents are picking me up to go buy some things for the kitchen before taking me in to work-- which is GORGEOUS and ROOMY now that Chris moved the fridge like we originally wanted. My dad, the handiest man I know, told Chris the easiest way to do what we wanted -- and it sure enough worked! You'll all have to come see!

The next day, Tuesday, they head home - but since I have off I'll be joining them for a breakfast. Chris and Julie may come too [:-D] which'll be a blast. Then I hang out with Julie for the rest of the day [another blast]!

And that's all for now! If you made it this far....then yay for you! IF not...well...what's the point of sending you some sort of message! Thanks for sticking through this long ass post!

I'll see you later!

**POST SCRIPT** Be sure to check out Elaine's blog ---[WitAndSpit]---> as she's started a podcast! It's GREAT! She has a link on there, as well, that tells you how to subscribe! DO IT! You'll love what she has to say! [And all in the CUTEST accent EVER!]

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://john-hannes.blogspot.com/2006/11/holla-holla-halloween-and-weekend-after.html' title='Holla, Holla, Halloween! I'm now that Bargain Lead at B&N, Evanston! I have a lot more responsibility, more pay, more hours and more fun :- ).

In other news, we all went and saw Shortbus about a week ago. It was the most amazing thing. Literally. I'm going again tonight with Julie, if anyone wants to come along! It seriously blew anything I've ever seen out of the water. John Cameron Mitchell is an incredible person for making this film. The cast is unbelieveable, and they too were amazing for creating such a wonderful story.

GO SEE IT.

Literally.

Julie's altering a winter coat for me as I knit her a scarf -- both for free -- so I'm excited by that! I love that she made the offer ;-).

I added a new banner ----->
It says "Go Mad" and it's a link to Caleb Kane's site for his EP. One might remember in 1992, when he was "Brad" Kane....this singing voice of Aladdin! His site previews his tracks and I gotta tell you [and not because he's Aladdin...] it's pretty damn good. He's a great writer, doesn't seem weird and too "artistc" about it [like miss J.Lo.Hewitt], and they sound amazing!
CHECK IT OUT.

Literally.

And that's all I have for now, chick-a-peas...

Literally.

Da Do Run Run

After watching our pals run the Chicago Marathon yesterday, Chris suggested that I try running it next year. I thought to myself "sure...I'll do that...."

But now I feel a little differently about it. I decided that I'm not doing enough to benefit my health or my personal goals, so it's now a goal of mine to participate in a marathon. Not necessarily the next one Chicago holds, but at some point in my life -- I'll do it.

Ellen [DeGeneres] has been a constant advocate for creating Life Lists. I have to agree with her views. She feels that once it's written down on a piece of paper, you are more likely to complete the task for the satisfaction of crossing it off the list. People hand write their lists, laminate them, create Excel sheets for them...and everyone everywhere is constantly crossing off completed goals.

I thought this was a cute idea, at first, and something I'd never see myself doing. Now, I think it's a pretty admirable deal. I've created a life list, one that I intend to maintain and complete. Luckily, I'm only hand-writing mine, so I can always add on when I feel inclined.

For those not familiar with the concept: Create a list of accomplishments that you have always wanted to do or have great interest in. It can be two ideas long; it can be 900 ideas long. The point is to cross off these accomplishments throughout the course of your lifetime. There is no time limit. There is no age limit. No one else is responsible for crossing off your accomplishments [though they sure can help!].

I'm not saying that you, dearest reader, are required to do this...but give it a thought. I'm only 5 ideas strong right now, but one day I hope my lists will be infinite.

This is all I really have to update with at the time. Sorry if it's a little bland!

A BIG congratulations to my friend Andrew for completing the Chicago Marathon yesterday, as well as everyone who participated in the event [workers/volunteers too]. It was a blast, and I can't wait to get started!

Look I Made Some Crap

Ahhh...if anyone is familiar with Sunday in the Park...the title is syllabically referencing Finishing the Hat. Or is it pentameter? Lord knows.

So I made some objects on the CafePress, started a little store and I'm hoping that I can actually get the nerve to buy them! I love the tote bags [as feminine as they seem], because they seem rather large for their price, and would be big enough to hold all my knitting projects or other works of art! Contact me if you're interested in seeing what they look like so far...

I think i'm 100% serious about starting up a knitting group at work. I just don't know that I want to set it up alone. Any takers? Of course we would start off with simple projects like "How to knit," "How to Purl," "How to Make a Scarf," and, if I can ever figure it out, "How to Make a Hat."

On to that subject. I made my first attempt tonight, using circular needles as prescribed by Franklin, to make the hat he has featured on his website. Sadly, I goofed up and now there's a gigantor twist in it, making it un-wearable. I'm going to double check with him that it is, in fact, a thing which cannot be fixed before unraveling it all and starting fresh.

I must say that I'm rather proud of myself, aside from the fact I screwed up. Pun intended. With this project, alone, I'm making my first cabled piece, my first knitting in the round piece, and my first hat! So many firsts, no wonder I messed up, right? Luckily it goes pretty quickly -- I made it through 3 cable twists in only 4 hours. Not too too shabby for a beginner, right? RIGHT?!? [Basically...21 rows at 105 stitches per row.]

Emily, if you read this, darling, I'm sure you'd love to do this type of project! It's just a step up from what we were doing before! I'll have to show you sometime. Especially after I learn how to finish the darn thing! That is, of course, when you have the time. Wink!

As far as the whole interview and promotion thing. Let's just say that they're narrowing it all down and we should here the results soon. I mean sooooon. I believe an announcement is being made by the start of next week. Cross your fingers and dot your i's! After all...eight people interviewed [why do I always start typing audition/ed?] for three positions. You do the math.

I'll update with the reults as soon as they're found out! Good luck to the other seven, who ever you are! [I think I only know three others...who were the other others? WHO? -- let's just save that for CSI: Miami to solve.]

For now, I head to bed. As you can see, it's past midnight in my time zone [can you see that? did I set up the blog with the timestamp?] and I have to be up in less than five hours. Then I throw in a shift from 7A-3P at ye olde B&N, then Chris and I head to dinner with Alex at El Gordo before he leaves for Texas next week. Then it's back to ye olde knitting mill. Friday, I hope to head to Steak 'n Shake -- anyone interested? Contact me!

And, again, let me know if you're interested in seeing my tote bag designs! I happen to think they're stellar and really marketable! I just need to work them into my budget! [I believe they're 12.99 + 5.00 s&h]

K2*, P2*

Sorry for the lack of update. Unfortunately, I've come to a point where I felt as though nothing interesting was happening, and didn't think it'd be glamourous to post about that nothingness.

Luckily for you, loyal, I've decided that enough has been happening to at least give a little insight!

I've interviewed for a new position at B&N a week ago, after a month of being told I'd already been slated for the position. I was told last Friday that I'd know by the 10th oth 11th. Unfortunately there was no decision made, more interviews were held, and now it appears that I could get the news tomorrow [or Monday] about the promotion. If I don't get it, it's not going to bother me -- I've got my eyes open for a second job somewhere. I'll let you know more about that soon!

In other news: my dear friend Julie and I spent Monday at a thrift store, watching movies, and hanging out with her co-workers at a cute wine bar named VOLO. It was spectacular service, everyone was incredibly friendly, the deal we got on the entrées was much appreciated, and nothing in the world beats Monday Night Bottle of Wine at 1/2 Price Night. Night. As I mentioned, we went thrifting for winter coats [we went to a small university with a small campus and tunnels connecting the buildings] and Julie mentioned that if we just find coats for ourselves, she'd be more than glad to alter them to fit. She knows a little tailoring and quite a bit about fashion -- as fashion design was her major. Lucky break? You bet! I loves me Julie!

In recent news: I learned to purl about a week ago! "What is purling?" you ask. Well. Basically. It's a really essential piece of knitting that allows you to make ribs or work with cables. How I went 5 years without knowlege of purling, I'll never know [and never forgive myself]. But, I've done learned it! I made a scarf, forgot that when one knits and purls they end up with half the width they would have it it was just a straight knit or purl job. So I gave it away to a co-worker -- and she lurved it! I then went on to learn the cable knit and I can't wait to start a project with my new found knowledge!

Common known fact: I tend to just give scarves away. I suppose it's because I know I can always make another if I just apply myself. I think now that I'm getting to know more and more about knitting, it'll be harder for me to give my projects away. For your sake, let's assume if I have enough back stock, I'll be more than happy to let go. :-)

What a horrible paragraph that was.

Forward, ho! I met a charming gentleman in the store today who was wearing this incredible hat, featuring a cable knit pattern. Of course I just had to ask where he got it. Happily he replied that he made it on his own and told me that if I were to grab pen and paper he would give me a web address to his blog where he talks about not only that particular pattern, but other interesting bits of information about knitting and gatherings and whatnot.

Please check out his website: http://the-panopticon.blogspot.com/

From what I've read on his page, I know it's something I'm going to continually read. He's got a great sense of humor and dedicates every entry to knitting. I'll be taking a listen to his podcast and let hopefully add a link to that as time goes by! He's got great amounts of information which makes me want to delve hardcore into the world of knitting. I mean...five years of only making scarves because I'm too afraid of investing time into something I may very well mess up is getting stale. Now that college is overwith, I have a little more free time to sit and relax, which I desperately need.

After all, knitting is my best relaxation technique. I'm not sure that I'd be able to join the group he's holding on the 4th, but I know I'd like to start some sort of beginner's knitting group with friends and co-workers...a group where we can all ask each other questions but not feel as dumb as we would in a room of experienced peoples. If interested, or if you'd like to help me start something up, let me know!

Perchance, if I play my cards right, I can ask aforementioned knitting customer to be a mentor in the world of yarn and needles.

Who knows?

[I believe] He's organized a wonderful program where on Nov. 4 where they'll be gathering to knit from Noon to 6P to benefit the Dulaan Project. The Dulaan Project is established to gather warm clothing made by knitters and fleece blankets [which are terribly simple to make] to send to the children and adults in desperate need of something to take the edge off the harsh weather of Mongolia.

Dulaan, in Mongolian, is the word for warm.

The button in the "Sites to See" on the right leads to a .pdf flyer about the project and what you can do to help out! I believe there's information within the flyer about the gathering[s] that are trying to get 10,000 items to send!

So, it seems this post turned out to be a lot longer than expected. Sorry for that. When I kick myself into more frequent posts, I guarantee they'll be considerably shorter and more to the point. Forgive the rambling, I worked an 8 hour shift [from 7A-3P] on 2 hours of sleep. I know that when I become less of a zombie I'll read over this and want to edit it. But for you, faithful readers, I'll leave it as it is.

Until next time!

Post Script: SERIOUSLY. Check out the two links I posted. I often take a look at someone and immediately feel an emotion about them, then start making up a background for them and then what brought them to their current state in life. It only takes a second for all this to happen, and I often walk away upset or sullen by what my mind has created.

The best place for me to do this, of course, is on the L. I don't really feel anything about the people on the train with me, other than pure annoyance...it's the people we pass walking along the street, or standing alone in a parking lot, looking for their car. It's the old women standing at the bus stop wearing their little plastic rain caps as the sky pours out another three gallons of cold, sharp rain upon them.

The lone tree in an open field.

Odd things make me tear up a little each day. Today, it was a seagull standing ontop of a lamp post in the parking lot of Truman College, just West of the Wilson stop. I don't know what causes this phenom. Could it be that I'm over sensitive? Could it be that I just pay far too much attention to detail?

Why is it that I detest seeing older people riding the train by themselves? They always look so sad and lonely. Unfortunately, I don't have the nerve to go over and talk with them...to make them, at least, feel wanted for five minutes.

Again, I don't have the courage to be so forward and I often feel guilty.

I don't know of anyone else that is full of this empathy, and then I'm left to wonder...is someone looking at me, from a train, and feeling sorry for me?

Mr. Bar Tender...Another Round!

I've done this before on other sites, and I might as well give it a try here...

What books should I read? At first I thought I might have something in it, and that's what was causing the aggravation - later realizing that no matter how many times I flush it out, the problem lies elsewhere.

I mentioned it at a party - a choice topic for any occasion, I know - and someone said I probably had a deficiency in sodium. This makes sense, I responded, as I had given up salting my food over a year ago. There went all that sodium and maybe my body was finally flushed of the tons and tons of salt I would slam into it. Afterall, was it necessary for me to salt my ramen noodles, my eggs, my popcorn? No. My heart thanked me, I'm sure. However, it was brought to my attention that it would be unlikely that I wasn't getting enough sodium in my diet.

Truth.

WebMD was more frightening than helpful. In the past four years, I was able to successfully diagnose a situation with the online helper. This time, WebMD fears I have developed Epilepsy and was having mild seizures. I was, after all, experiencing the phantom smells.

Odd.

My mother thinks it happens to be a potassium deficiency. This makes sense, as I rarely eat fruit - especially bananas [thanks for the spelling lesson, Gwen] - or my leafy greens. My mother suggested picking up the habit, or a bottle of supplements. I may have to agree with my mother.

However, WebMD had never steered me wrong. Be sure to check into CNN in the next few days to see who wins this war.

Another website suggested Blepherospasm was the culprit, which is cause by stress, fatigue, or caffeine. This also may be the strong option. It recommends I flush my eye with water [been there] or place a hot towel over it.

Relaxation.

Again, I'm sure Fox News will do a full report, as will the Chicago Sun Times - this is, afterall, front page, headlining news.

Copycat Copy-Do

In my first entry I mentioned that I was copying Elaine. WELL - let's just say I'm apparently copying her too much.

Yesterday afternoon, the 25th, I was in a car accident.

"What?! NO! Can't BE..are you ok?!"

Yes. Yes, I am. Someone ran a light, I ended up close behind them [as I had the right of way] and couldn't slow down. They thought I was tailing them so they, in their truck, slammed on the brakes - I slammed on mine - and I collided with their back end.

I'm ok - The Saturn, however is not. She was towed to a place. I never even named her. In two days, the adjuster will be talking with me to see how things go. We're praying that Saturn, Nameless will not be totalled - it would be horrible to not get it repaired.

Said other driver got out of his truck, and explained to me and two police officers that I was tailing him and he slammed on his brakes. Nothing was in his path. I held my tongue when the kid said it to me - I say kid loosely, as he was 18 years old - knowing that the person who causes the accident is usually held liable. It made me wonder, because the situation was detailed in Driver's Ed - Don't slam on your breaks hoping someone will run into you....you're the liable one, it doesn't matter if the other driver was following too close. At least when I was in Driver's Ed, this was made clear.

The kicker in this situation: I was on my way home from the Saturn Dealership where they performed $500 worth of maintenance on the car, replacing a serpentine belt and the oil. Yeah. Ouch.

All-in-all, I walked away only with the accident report, no citation or warning. The kid: I'm not too sure. There was talk of charging him with wreckless driving, taking his license, issuing him a ticket, all or none of the above.

I regret that I wasn't able to attend Alli's party that evening. I regret to inform that I won't be arriving in Chicago for quite some time [I had planned this weekend] - it all depends on the car, any assesment, any repair.

Next on the list, according to my Elaine schedule...being pick-pocketed. Let's cross our fingers, ladies and gents - I don't want this one to happen.

Obsessive Compulsive Hand Washing

I cannot stop washing my hands.

I think I may have a slight compulsive tendency, not so much in the area that I perform rituals because I think my mother's going to die or God will be mad at me, but it might be a little more Howard Hughes-ish.

I notice as I'm cooking - especially with eggs - that I wash my hands every time I put the utensil down or am near the sink. But I also notice that I tend to wash my hands a lot during commercial breaks when I'm watching TV. I also have the urge to do so when a drive-through window person touches my hand when I hand over my card, which is odd because I know they're in there handling my food and it doesn't phase me.

I believe everyone knows that I have to ask every time I walk away from the car if it beeped. I still lose sleep over it. And it wasn't just with this car, my last one didn't have the key-less feature where all I had to do was press a button and feel safe about it. I used to, and still tend to, get out of bed in the middle of the night and check all the doors to make sure they're closed tightly and locked.

I also have to shower the same way every time I step in and dry off the same way wen I've finished. Brushing my teeth before a shower is a must.

Yes. I recently watched an MTV NewsDoc about OCD. But I think the thing I've noticed is that we all have our little tendencies to perform rituals throughout our everyday lives, so I know it's not the full-blown disorder. What tendencies do you have?

A New Beginning

This is only being created because I am a follower, Elaine is cool, and because when I gain a small fan following, I'd like them to read this blog rather than my xanga or my useless myspace.
